Magento rose as new star in open source shopsoftware in spring 2008. It is available for download. More than 2 million downloads until now make it the fastest growing e-commerce solution in the world.
Magento offers a lot of advantages. Shop owners will benefit with Magento from a neat software architecture, far-reaching functions, simple usage and a large international community of developers are enhancing Magento in a continuous way and a multitude of extensions and modules for almost any use case. The modules can easily be selected on the marketplace Magento-Connect.
In the meantime, the Magento product family has been enlarged. Besides the free Community Edition Magento Enterprise has been for sale since spring 2009 as highend-solution for demanding e-commerce customers. The Enterprise Edition includes additional advanced functions and also support services.
In summer 2010 the Professional Edition was added to the portfolio, bridging the gap between the free Community Version and the Enterprise Edition on the other end.
