Magento Versions
The shopsoftware Magento is currently available in three different versions with a different scope and a multitude of additional services.
The spearhaed of the Magento portfolio is the Enterprise Edition. This is an enterprise e-commerce solution with a broad range of functions including integrated support and guarantees by the producer.
Magento Enterprise is suitable for larger and more complex Magento projects where far-reaching functions, best performance and guarantees and support by the producer are needed.
Magento's Professional Edition has been available since spring 2010. The scope of Magento CE was enhanced by different features. Support for the Professional Edition is guaranteed by partner agencies.
This version is suitable for medium-sized shop projects requiring different additional features which are not available in the CE-version.
Initially, Magento was developed as pure open-source solution and was released as such in spring 2008 for free download. With more than two miillionen downloads the software is now the fastest growing e-commerce solution in the world. Thanks to a large international community and more than 2.500 modules for different areas almost all requirements can be met. Support for the community edition - as indicated by the name - is done by the the community or service partners. A guarantee or support by the producer is not possible - as usual in the open source area.
The Magento Community Edition is submitted to constant further development by Magento Inc. and represents the base for the two versions with costs.
